The Utility Business Model: Evolution or Revolution? : Greentech Media

Recently, New York became the center of attention in the electricity sector after announcing a plan to reform distribution utilities in the state and create a model for "utility 2.0." Over the last four months, regulators, utilities and other stakeholders have been hashing out the details. The end goal will be to create new rate structures and incentives for distribution utilities so that they put more emphasis on distributed resources to achieve environmental and resiliency goals, while empowering local consumers.

Watch The Energy Gang — Stephen Lacey, Katherine Hamilton and Jigar Shah — as they talk with Audrey Zibelman, commissioner of the New York Public Service Commission, and Sergej Mahnovski, director of Con Edison's "utility of the future" team. They'll discuss trends in distributed generation, utility operations, grid planning and the future of business in the U.S. electric power sector.
